     Penultimate

Penultimate is Penultimate is a unique and easy-to-use handwriting app specifically designed for iPad users that combines the “natural experience of pen and paper with the flexibility and syncing of Evernote”. This app allows students to draw and write naturally on a screen. In this way, all notes are stored electronically and are therefore at less risk of being lost. In addition, it is much easier to post these notes on Dropbox and share them with fellow students. When taking notes in a fast paced lecture, hand written notes are often messy and illegible. Students waste valuable time rewriting these notes. Using Penultimate, students merely need to edit their work in order for it to be understandable.

Students that take notes electronically are often caught unprepared when having to draw graphs and tables during lectures, and do not have pen and paper ready. Penultimate ensures that being ill-equipped never occurs. Moreover, students can add a picture and make notes on and around it. This helps students in a classroom environment where a teacher has drawn a diagram that the student wishes to use. Students can take a picture of the overhead/whiteboard and make notes on and around it using this innovative app.

Furthermore, students can simply mail notes they take to friends who have missed classes. This is an efficient and cost effective way of note sharing as students need not photocopy physical pages. In addition, Evernote has recently updated the app and it is free. The new and improved Penultimate includes handwriting search and recognitions and sharper ink on retina displays. This app is useful for educational purposes as students are more organised, have notes stored electronically and can use useful features on the app to make their lectures/ classes more structured.
